Prince Harry’s on-off girlfriend has escaped the violence in Kenya, East Africa — where she was stranded for more than a week — and flown home to Cape Town.

Chelsy was due back at Leeds University on January 4th, but will take a short break and fly to Britain later this month.
The status of her relationship with Harry, which has been under severe pressure lately, is still uncertain. But we are sure the Prince will be delighted that she has left Kenya’s turmoil unharmed.

For a few days we’ve been suggesting in the comments’ section that Chelsy Davy could be in some danger in Kenya, where a vicious tribal civil war has broken out over a disputed election result.
Today, the Mail on Sunday is confirming that she is stranded at a game reserve near Mombasa. On Foreign Office orders, flights to and from Britain out of the capital Nairobi have been suspended. It seems that Chelsy and her family can’t even get a flight back to Cape Town.
Although Charles Davy could probably order up a private jet at short notice, it may be that simply going into Nairobi is too dangerous at present. Reports says that 350 people have been murdered, many hacked down with machetes or burned alive in their houses. Countless women and children have been gang raped and many are now homeless.
Chelsy is pictured in the Mail enjoying the beach facilities, but also looking pensive, as well she might.
She is said to be determined to complete her studies at Leeds University — which must seem like a haven of peace to her right now — and she’s spent much of her Christmas and New Year break preparing an essay which is due in shortly.
A family friend says they are hoping to escaping the violence by the end of the week. Indeed there are hopeful signs that talks will at least begin soon between the President and the opposition leader. However, old Empire hands will remember the Mau Mau uprising in the 1950s and see no end in sight to the current troubles which have their roots in Kenya’s previous general election.
Let’s hope Chelsy manages to get out in time. I’m sure Harry will be watching the situation very closely.

We’re getting reports that Chelsy Davy has dumped Prince Harry because “she needs some space to carve out her own identity”.
She is apparently fed up with Harry’s “lack of commitment” — echoing Kate Middleton’s complaint about Prince William. It seems the informal engagement, leaked a month or so ago, was less watertight than we thought.
Chelsy has appeared very unhappy in recent weeks. Many associated that with the cold climate in Leeds where she’s studying for a postgrad degree. Clearly there is more to it than that.
Who would blame her if she was just a little exasperated with Harry’s clubbing lifestyle. Her non-appearance at the rugby World Cup final in Paris was unusual, especially as South Africa was involved.
We await developments.
