Prince William was well supported at his investiture as the 1000th Knight Companion of the Garter since 1348 at Windsor today.

Senior Garter Knights, Prince Charles and Prince Philip (his father and grandfather), were his official supporters as the Queen draped the historic and prestigious Garter robes around him in St. George’s Chapel.

In the congregation were Kate Middleton his more-than-a-girlfriend, and the Duchess of Cornwall.
Although Kate outshone all others as usual, this time William was the centre of attention in his floridly magnificent medieval robes and flourish of a hat.
The ancient company (literally in many cases) made its way slowly in solemn procession from the Chapel for about a quarter of a mile, heavily guarded by police and elements of the Household Cavalry.
It is a shame that the public are not allowed to watch the service and investiture on television. At least Hello! magazine didn’t have the monopoly this time.
Perhaps the Way Forward Group could consider opening this splendid event to public view at its next meeting?

The Queen has appointed Prince William a Knight of the Garter.

Her Majesty made the announcement as predicted on St. George’s Day, England’s national day and Shakespeare’s birthday.
Prince William will be officially created a Royal Knight Companion of the Order of the Garter and presented with the insignia by his grandmother at a private service at Windsor Castle in June. He will then take part in a public parade wearing the distinctive blue robes and black velvet plumed hat.
This illustrious Order was founded by Edward III in 1348. It is the highest and the oldest British Order of Chivalry and remains in the Queen’s gift alone.
William will, at 25, become the 1000th Knight in the Register since 1348. Together with Prince Philip and Prince Charles he makes up three concurrent generations of Royal Knights.
Regular readers will know that Royal Anecdotes “nominated” Prince William for the vacancy.
We are delighted Her Majesty chose Prince William, whose recent exploits with a Chinook helicopter would have made Biggles proud.

There is a lot of chatter around over who will become the 1000th Knight of the Garter, the most prestigious Order in the realm.

The Queen is expected to announce the name on St. George’s Day, April 23. Among the possible candidates are Tony Blair and Lord Guthrie, the former Chief of the Defence Staff.
However, Tony Blair is not a unifying candidate, and there are those who would bring up their lunches if he made it.
Wikipedia describes the Garter like this, “The Most Noble Order of the Garter is an order of chivalry, or Knighthood, originating in medieval England, and presently bestowed on recipients in any of the Commonwealth realms; it is the pinnacle of the honours system in the United Kingdom. Membership in the order is limited to the Sovereign, the Prince of Wales, and no more than twenty-four members, or Companions; the Order also comprises Supernumerary Knights and ladies (e.g., members of the British Royal Family and foreign Monarchs).”
An intriguing suggestion is that Prince William would be an easy choice for Her Majesty this time. Why not? At least it will keep Blair off the Most Noble list.
Royal Anecdotes humbly nominates Prince William to Her Majesty as the 1000th Knight of the Garter. I’m sure our readers will be equally staunch in their support.
