Kate Middleton and William avoid Mahiki

Updated 14.35 GMT

There are reports of Kate Middleton and Prince William attending a function in London last night. Prince Harry was also there.

However, while Harry and his cousins, Princess Beatrice and Eugenie, went on to the glitzy Mahiki club in Mayfair, William and Kate did not.

As Harry gets back in the old groove, Wills and Kate appear to be in more grown-up mode by avoiding the press and dining in friends’ houses rather than rowdy bars and nightclubs.

By contrast, Harry and his cousins partied with a variety of revellers including WAGs (wives and girlfriends of footballers), minor celebrities and trust-fund babes.

With William hotly tipped for the prestigious Order of the Garter, the only garter Harry seems destined for is on the leg of a dolly bird.

Update : From U.S. People Magazine : In a rare display of public affection, Prince William and girlfriend Kate Middleton cozied up on the dance floor Thursday at a raucous charity event in London.

Middleton – in a pink strapless dress with a pleated skirt and a flower at her waist – kissed her boyfriend of five years as the pair boogied. William twirled her around as the pair danced to Little Richard’s “Tutti Frutti” and then to Guns N’ Roses’s “Welcome to the Jungle.”

“They looked happy and so in love,” says a guest at the burleque themed-bash. “Kate was smiling so widely and they looked like there was no one else in the world when they were dancing.”

The pair … were attending an event for The Henry van Straubenzee Memorial Fund. (Henry, a school pal of Harry’s, died in a car crash in 2002.) … Both William and Middleton averted their eyes as a stripper performed. At another point, William blushed (and Kate giggled) as a female singer presented the Prince with a rose – putting it between his teeth. (He promptly removed it and stuck it in the ice bucket holding a bottle of vodka.) And the couple sang along enthusiastically during a drag queen’s Southern-flavored rendition of “Purple Rain.”

Naan but the brave for Prince William

Prince William tucked into what must be the biggest naan bread on the planet during a visit to a curry restaurant in York on Wednesday. William and 47 friends ran up a bill of £1300 ($2600), matching the size of the offerings.

The restaurant had been expecting a group to arrive but staff were amazed when the Prince and his RAF colleagues turned up in such numbers.

The owner said: “As soon as he walked in I met him and said, ‘Welcome to Saffron Desi’ — I was amazed, shocked. I shook hands with him and asked him what he would like to drink. He ordered a bottle of Strongbow cider. I then told the kitchen that Prince William was here. The customers were going crazy.”

The Prince apparently ordered the £8 ($16) house special, a mild chicken curry called “Royal Delight”. How could he resist?

He was said to have roared with laughter when one of the huge naan breads was brought to his table. Mr Nisar added, “He said, ‘Oh my God I can’t believe these naans are so big. I’ve never seen anything like it’.”

Gwen Turner was having a meal with her boyfriend Steve Brierley when the Prince arrived. “We couldn’t believe it when we realized it was him.”

Mr Nisar said that William had been very polite. “Myself, my chef and all the staff are proud to have served him.”

William is reported to have had just three small bottles of cider with his meal. Maybe his wild Mahiki days are over.

Kate Middleton to open photographic gallery

Last week, Kate Middleton left her job with the Jigsaw fashion house, for which she was a part-time accessories buyer.

She told former colleagues at her farewell lunch of her intentions to begin a new career as a photographer, and even open her own gallery.

A close friend is reported as saying, “When she was asked what she was off to do she said she was a photographer and she may open a gallery.”

Kate Middleton Jigsaw management also confirmed her departure, “It’s an amicable split. Kate and Jigsaw see it as a good time to part on very good terms. Jigsaw are very appreciative for all Kate has done for them and wish her well in the future.”

Kate later wowed Hallowe’en revellers at Mahiki when she turned up with her sister, but without the Prince, dressed as a witch (pictured left). “You can see how she bewitches Prince William,” said one. “She’s absolutely gorgeous.”

Royal watchers are now speculating if she will be at the Clarence House bash for the Queen and Prince Philip’s Diamond Wedding anniversary in two weeks.

The real event to watch, though, will be the service at Westminster Abbey on the 19th. Her presence there will reveal her position within the Royal Family and at William’s side.

Kate Middleton hints at wedding

Attending a friend’s hen night at Mahiki, the London nightclub favoured by Prince William and Prince Harry, Kate Middleton, 25, hinted that she may be about to announce an engagement herself.

After being recently reunited with long-time boyfriend, Prince William, the Jigsaw fashion buyer didn’t discount wedding bells for the two of them.

“It’s not my night,” Kate told a reporter. Then added: “Not yet.”

Mischievous, perhaps, or just unable to hold it in any longer?

Let’s wait and see. Which is what we always do with this pair of lovebirds.
