Prince Charles becomes a grocer

The Prince of Wales and Camilla today opened their own grocery shop in Tetbury, Gloucestershire.

Highgrove Shop

Appropriately named Highgrove, the shop will sell organic produce from the Prince’s farms and his growing range of foodstuffs, branded under the name, Duchy Originals.

The good folk of the village will have privileged access to the Prince’s high-quality produce.

Kate Middleton and William planning ski trip

Now that Prince Harry is safely back from his tour in Afghanistan, Katie Nicholl is reporting that Prince William and Kate Middleton are planning a ski trip to Klosters next month, and both will be at Peter Phillips and Autumn Kelly’s wedding.

Frogmore House
Frogmore House, Windsor, where Peter Phillips will marry in May

As we have been saying for months here at Royal Anecdotes, in the face of frothy newspaper and blog reports that they were on the rocks, the couple have been keeping a low profile because of Harry’s situation. There is a sense that much has been put on hold since Christmas and we’re now getting back to normal.

Kate will also be at William’s side during his cousin Peter Phillips’ wedding at Frogmore in the grounds of Windsor Castle in May. It seems the house may be the venue instead of St George’s Chapel, which would have given it a very Royal ambience.

A close friend of William and Kate is quoted as saying, “The rumours that they are on the rocks are rubbish. It is simply that they have not been out clubbing together and are keeping a low profile. They are also getting a bit older and prefer to go to friends for dinner rather than raving at Boujis.

“They talk on the phone pretty much every day. And they were together only the other week, but no one got to hear about it. They were with some friends at a private house party and were very tactile together. William had his arm round Kate and they were very much a couple. Kate is on the guest list for Peter’s wedding to Autumn Kelly.”

Both are hoping Prince Charles will join them at Klosters — he has been absent in recent years, which has been a crushing blow for the resort he made famous. Harry too may join the party.

Chelsy Davy yesterday drove to Highgrove from Leeds and spent time with Prince Harry last night. That must have been quite a reunion given the fizzy nature they both share.

There is also talk that Kate will after all go to New York to further her photography career, although quite how Mario Testino will fit into it after his outburst at the National Gallery (if correctly reported) is not quite clear.

Prince Harry arrives back in England

Prince Harry has arrived back in England after his slightly curtailed 10-week tour of duty in the killing fields of Afghanistan.

Prince Harry
Prince Harry arriving at RAF Brize Norton 11.30 GMT Saturday

The Prince arrived at RAF Brize Norton mid-morning GMT together with 170 other soldiers returning from Afghanistan. He was greeted by his father the Prince of Wales, and brother Prince William.

We saw just a brief glimpse of William who carried Harry’s luggage roll and rucksack to the car before loading them into the boot. Harry said nothing and didn’t even look towards the assembled press pack.

Prince Charles gave a restrained and emotional statement to the broadcasters in the airbase terminal, showing how worried the entire Royal Family have been over Harry’s safety.

The three Princes then drove to Highgrove, where, it’s thought, Harry will begin a six-week period of leave and debriefing.

Although it’s Saturday night tonight, I doubt we’ll see the Princes on the town. My guess is that one of their friends will arrange a party at a London nightspot next week.

We may also see Harry at the Queen and Prince Philip’s delayed anniversary bash at The Ritz.

Kate Middleton bewitches at Ball

It is now clear that Kate Middleton did go to Camilla’s 60th birthday party after all. She was apparently smuggled into Highgrove to avoid snappers lying in wait outside.

Apparelled in a “stunning full-length cream dress”, Kate bewitched the other guests, one of whom indiscreetly remarked that she was draped over Prince William for much of the evening.

There can be no greater evidence that William and Kate are back together on a stronger footing than before. A few weeks together at Teapot cottage on the Balmoral estate next month should yield the photographs many doubters are waiting for.

Although the Queen was not present at the occasion, she did lend Camilla a priceless diamond necklace for the evening. The jewellery was made for the wedding of Mary of Teck (later Queen Mary) to Prince George in 1893.
