Happy Birthday to Royal Anecdotes and to Syntagma, John! Many happy returns of the day! I have enjoyed reading the articles and comments on Royal Anecdotes so much that it has become an important part of my daily routine to check the site, often three-four times in a 24 hour period, especially when something really exciting is being discussed. My warmest congratulations to you, John, and also my thanks for the time and effort you expend making Royal Anecdotes such a valuable place for information sharing about the Royal Family! Many blessings, many fetes!
Happy Birthday and Congratulations! Like Gigi, this is one of my day brighteners and of course on my browser tabs Thank you for all your hard work and many wishes for years of continued success.
If William does marry Kate, would there be pressure on her parents to sell their business? Is there precedent for a Queen (such as Kate would one day be) to have parents who work?
Congratulations, John!! I do not write often but, like Gigi, I check the site 3-4 times daily for the great conversations! Job well done, and keep up the great work!!
Well, I doubt they’d be supported by the Crown, although they probably could be supported by their new King and Queen.
It just seems as though the parents/in-laws of a reigning monarch would find it difficult to do business in such a fishbowl. Better to make them the Earl and Countess of Buckleberry and get them out of the rough and tumble of the for-profit sector.
Dear Royal Anecdote Friends, do come, all of you, to the party table I have prepared, to celebrate the third birthday of Royal Anecdotes and Syntagma! Dan and Claudius, if you will pour the champagne and Julie, if you will be kind enough to pass the sandwiches while I assist with the cutting of the birthday cake, I will be most grateful. Dear RA Friends, let us raise our glasses and toast our own dear John on this auspicious occasion, the third birthday of our favorite site! To John, may every blessing be his and may RA and Syntagma continue to prosper!
My dear Coni, I shall indeed pour! Let it not be said that we left champagne glasses unfilled! Dan, it is “Hear, hear!” It is an affirmation of the toast, probably a shortening of “Hear him, hear him!” from days of yore.
John,
Congratulations on the third birthday of the RA and
Syntagma Media. You have brought the internet a
refreshing view point of all things royal. May, you
have many more. Thanks for your insights. Party on and cheers.
I regret that I only discovered this site a couple of weeks ago. It is brilliantly informative. I am now working my way through some of the archived articles!
According to the Telegraph, HM and the Duke are in Slovenia. HM looks especially like her Grandmother, Queen Mary, in the photos. The Slovenian president’s remarks seem kind of, um…awkward. I look forward to reading her speech, which is always pitch perfect.
Dan, the Slovenians have got a bit of a grudge against Britain because of the way some of their people were repatriated after the war to Yugoslavia, as it then was.
Apparently Tito had them all killed, hence the call for the Queen to apologize for something that politicians did before she came to the Throne. She must hate some of the things she has to do.
Oh good grief, the Slovenians need to get over WWII and any grudges left over from those times. It is unhealthy and not helpful to retain poor relations with a country as helpful as Great Britain over something that happened before the Queen even came to the throne. Why is the white stallion which is their gift to the Queen remaining in Slovenia instead of going back to the UK with the Queen? That is an odd way to bestow a gift, in my view. Also, Prince Philip’s critical comments on the gold tea pot are not helpful and perhaps constitute “looking a gift horse in the mouth!” Hmmm….as I have just chided John for what I termed an “anti-equine” expression, perhaps I need to not throw stones, remembering that I live in a glass house! Do forgive me, John. Let us hope the Duke of Marmalade is much engaged elsewhere and not reading this commentary.

Ack, I would hope they could continue to support themselves…can’t imagine the nastiness if they were then supported by the Crown…yikes!

Hear hear! (or is it here here?)
There’s already an Earl of Berkshire. Who knew? We’ll have to dub Kate’s parents something else.

Dagga, Party Pieces is a little young for us, although you’re as young as you feel, I suppose.
Gigi, we’re having a little tipple here too, so I must be careful what I write — it might be too over the top.
