The fact is, it has to happen some time and it will probably take us by surprise. All I've done is to point out that there's a window while they're all up in the Highlands. That window is shortened by the Diana date on the 31st and William resuming military life in September. Logically, Christmas would be the next window, but that would depend on whether William will be serving over the holidays, as Harry did last year. February then looms into view as the most likely next date. It would shorten the engagement period and the time when Kate would have to go into purdah under Royal protection, presumably by living in one of the Palaces -- she's known not to fancy that too much, especially in the light of Diana's experiences. I am not going to hold my breath because all my oxygen is pledged to the Olympic events, but I am very much hoping for an August announcement of the Royal Engagement. It is the highest time. Right now I have my toes and fingers crossed and am turning blue holding my breath over the USA girls gymnasts on the balance beam.
