Monarchy DVD released February 25
For those who didn’t see the splendid five-part BBC documentary Monarchy: The Royal Family At Work, Amazon has the DVD out tomorrow, Monday.
Amazon.co.uk is offering a 40pc reduction at a value price of only £14 (around $27).
The documentary was shot by RDF Media for the BBC and caused a furore at the press launch when the Queen was said to have “stormed out in a huff” from a photoshoot with American star photographer, Annie Leibovitz. The footage actually showed her walking briskly into the session.
Some very senior executives lost their jobs in both RDF and the BBC before the matter was finally resolved and a re-edited version agreed with Buckingham Palace.
The scene — now shown in the correct sequence — is the first to be shown in Episode 1 of the series.
If you are at all interested in British Royalty — and you wouldn’t be reading this if you weren’t — this is a must have collectors’ item. The DVD also has a bonus of half an hour of unbroadcast material, so contains around six hours of truly sumptuous viewing.
Let’s hope the extra footage has been cut in the right order.

I pre-ordered the DVD several weeks ago from Amazon.com.uk and my credit card was just charged $29.51 US dollars. Still a bargain in my humble opinion. I expect the DVD is winging its way to me as I write this. John, I will let you know if I agree the DVD is “truly sumptuous viewing.”

Thank you for the DVD info John, I will order it when I have the time. It is a lovely photo of the QUEEN. Speaking of nice photos, I just saw John’s photo on the website and John is quite Handsome. Even though I always have a difference of opinion on the romance of the young Royals, I love your website John. I read almost all the helpful sites that interests me. Thank you for putting together such a comprehensive place to read news and make comments, a bit of something for everyone.

Arthur, I think you will agree, but I won’t anticipate your opinion. Please let us know your views when you’ve had time to watch it.

US, “Handsome”, moi? [blush]. Get away!
And thanks for the compliments about the site. I do try to eliminate stories I don’t believe are true, or are skewed away from what actually happened. It’s amazing how frequently this happens, especially now when there’s a great shortage of Royal news, apart from the inquest.

The Barbara Walter’s special on the Royal family airs in US on Monday at 8/7 pm est. on ABC.

Thanks for that, Jan. The ABC version is only about one-third of the total shown in Britain, with even more on the DVD.
