Merry Christmas

Royal Anecdotes is taking a break over Christmas. We will be back on Wednesday January 2.

  1. A very Merry and Blessed Christmas and a Happy New Year to all of our merry band! I am baking Christmas cookies today, listening to Christmas music, and holding in my thoughts and prayers the brave men and women in our military forces who are bravely fighting in forward areas in Iraq and Afghanistan, far from their families at Christmas, to keep all of us safe and free. May God bless them, keep them safe, and grant them a happy homecoming and a successfully completed mission!

  2. Hear, hear, Gigi. May you also have a great Christmas, and thank you for your wonderful contributions to Royal Anecdotes in 2007.

  3. Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to all! I hope everyone is safe, warm and wrapped in love and good cheer throughout the rest of the holiday season and into the new year. Thanks to all for the spirited debates, the good humor and kindness, and the abundant information that is imparted here. There aren’t a lot of places where one can laugh and learn and share good companionship. It’s nice that Royal Anecdotes is one of those places. A warm cyberhug to all!

  4. Warmest wishes of the season to John and all the RA (ir)regulars.

    God bless us, every one!

  5. May everyone have a wonderful MERRY CHRISTMAS and a very BLESSED NEW YEAR!!! All of you are in my prayers for Christmas and the New Year. And Melissa I hope you do not go MIA for another 9 days we couldn’t bear not hearing from you. And John go easy on the Dundee Cake and Christmass HOHOHO!

  6. Thank you very much, John, for your kind and gracious words! I appreciate you and this wonderful site so much, and all the lovely friends we have who read and post here! I am greatly looking forward to the New Year, which will bring a Royal Christening of Viscount Severn, a Royal wedding of Peter Philips and Autumn Kelly, and perhaps another Royal engagement or two! The future is bright before us!

  7. Happy Christmas one and all!

  8. He sprang to his sleigh, to his team gave a whistle,
And away they all flew like the down of a thistle.
But I heard him exclaim, ‘ere he drove out of sight,
“Happy Christmas to all, and to all a good-night!”

  9. I see on The Times online that the Queen has opened a YouTube site with royal video footage. Her 50th Christmas address will be shown there beginning Tuesday.

I haven’t checked it out yet, but thought some of you may want to know. Especially for those of us not in the UK, this site will be great.

  10. Evelyn, we have really been on the same wavelength lately, as I, too, just saw on another website that the Queen will be on youtube delivering her Christmas address. Also, the day that you were wondering about royal surnames, I had been on the official Royal Family website looking at the page pertaining to their names before I came here to find that you had been looking at that page, too! By the way, my decidedly “nonworking” cat wishes your three working cats a very Meowy Christmas. ;)

Trudie, I’m hoping against hope that I won’t ever be MIA for nine days ever again!

  11. Well, I’m glad to hear that SOMEONE has been on my wavelength! :) We are having blustery weather here, so the cats are snuggled into the garage. I hope your weather (and electricity) are still fine.

  12. The Royal Channel is amazing! Thanks for the link, Evelyn. :)

  13. I hope that everyone had a great Christmas. I also hope that the weather will start to cooperate and let everyone dig out from the snow. I have been following the web during this time. Does anyone if you are reading this know what is happening with Prince William and Kate? There are rumors from anything from splitting up to engagement. I know the articles that I have read sound like the articles from April. I also know that only a couple of papers have reported it. Was I dreaming when I read that before Christmas Kate and her family returned from Balmoral?
Did Kate ever return from Mustique? Someone told me not to believe everything that I read in the papers. Is that the case here ? Any information would be appreciated. I am really pulling for them.

  14. Yes, I’m hearing the same thing but I haven’t seen anything. That would be an old statement from April because William & Kate are doing just fine. There’s really no need to get crazy about it. They will be together for New Years.

  15. Claudius, I have been following your remarks for a while now. You are always right on with what you say. I am very much reassured about Prince William and Kate. Thank you very much for your quick response. I hope you and everyone else
have a very Happy New Year!

  16. A lot of papers are putting together a list of stories that made big headlines this year and William & Kate short split in April is one of them. That’s all.

  17. Lots of Google Alerts showing that split story, but they seem to be taken from news sources summarizing the past year.

Kate was due back from the Bahamas yesterday — Thursday — and is planning to spend New Year with William. Earlier stories suggested Rodriques, a resort in the Indian Ocean, but we’ll know soon. ;)

I hope everyone had a great Christmas. I’ve been watching the weather situation in the mid-West and it’s clear this is going to be a monster winter for all those folk caught up in it. I had friends in Oklahoma but they moved to the Boston area just in time, by the sound of it, although I think New England has been badly hit too.

Here in Old England we had a very mild Christmas. We haven’t needed to turn on the central heating until the afternoon, so that gives you some indication.

I’m taking a few more days off until January 2 — it’s been a hectic year — so I’ll see you then. I still monitor the email though. ;)

Have a very happy New Year.

  18. Kat, I read in online news that Kate returned from Mustique a day early (on 12/26?) to join William. I haven’t seen that confirmed anywhere.

Knowing that William was on military duty in the days leading up to Christmas, including most of Christmas day, it doesn’t surprise me at all that Kate and her family made other plans for Christmas. There wouldn’t have been much point in staying in England to be with William, especially if they have plans to be together on holiday over New Years.

  19. Evelyn, thank you for the update. I had read about Kate coming back from Mustique on Boxing Day. However, I didn’t know if she had in fact returned. Information is reassuring. I truly believe that they love each other and am hoping that they find strength and support in each other. Thank you again for your update.

  20. We may have read the same report, Kat. I don’t know if it’s true, but, if not, Kate was planning to be back by now anyway. I wonder if we’ll learn when/where they’re spending New Years.

  21. Kate returned from Barbados yesterday (Saturday). Presumably she’ll need a day to recover before jetting off somewhere else. :)
