Long server downtime
Royal Anecdotes apologizes for a rather long server outage which began on Sunday and has just ended.
I won’t go into the details but it was not a happy experience. We’re now back and raring to go — once we’ve cleared up all the midnight oil and spilt milk.
Thanks for your patience.

I am so glad that the site is back up, John! I was going into serious withdrawal pains!

So was I, Gigi. Thirty of our 40 sites were down for reasons still unknown — nothing to do with Rackspace being hit by a truck though.

That is a lot of sites down at once!
I am so glad they got it fixed!

Hello. I have never posted here before. I am an American and have been reading posts here for several months. I was a teenager when Diana married Charles and have had a bit of “royal infatuation” ever since. I even tried the Di haircut in 1982. Let’s just say it looked a lot better on Diana than on my teenaged head.
I tried to visit your site on Sunday after I read that Chelsy broke up with Prince Harry. After trying for the better part of three days, what a lovely surprise to find you up and running again.
I enjoy reading all of the comments that people post here. It is so civilized and refreshingly so. My knowledge of all things royal is paltry compared to those who post here, so I will keep my comments to a minimum. Just wanted to say hello and this seemed the perfect opportunity.

Good to have you aboard, Melissa. And you don’t have to keep your comments to a minimum.

Thank you, John.

I’m so glad that you are back up. I was going through withdrawals as well. I like your site. The comments and posts are very well balanced and you are not anti-royal. I’m Jamaican, living in America and a huge Kate Middleton fan.
I’m holding out for the fairy tale and I’ll be here every day until it happens.

Well, some of the biggest sites on the internet went down two days ago because a truck crashed into the power plant of a Texas datacenter called Rackspace. All hell broke loose, as usual.
Ours though was not connected with that. We were subjected to a denial of service attack, which a lot of folk get once they become well known on the net. It’s often accompanied by a ransom demand. Thankfully our wasn’t and we saw them off in 2 1/2 days.

Sid J, in your business you’ll know all about server outages. We had a nasty DDoS which, happily, we’ve overcome now. These things happen, I’m afraid.
Yep, we rather like Kate too.

Going without my RA fix reminded me of how much I appreciate the site and how long I’ve been meaning to say that.
Many thanks, John!
