Brigitte Bardot advises Kate Middleton

Brigitte Bardot
Brigitte Bardot in her 1950s heyday

In case you are wondering whether this post is just an excuse to put up a beach shot of La Bardot in her prime, think again. This is serious.

The now formidable Grande Dame has been giving advice to Kate Middleton on how to get her man — i.e. Prince William.

Brigitte, of course, has spent many years supporting animal cruelty causes and has a reputation for eccentricity where furry creatures are concerned.

Not surprisingly perhaps she has reacted sharply to the pictures of Kate out shooting at Balmoral with Prince Charles, and later, her best guy. Bardot thinks Kate is trying too hard to ensnare her chap into a more long-term commitment by attempting to fit in with aristocratic life.

Kate was pictured on the moors at Balmoral recently, dressed in camouflage and dangly pearl earrings — an incendiary combination apparently, although I don’t quite get the allure myself.

Brigitte, interviewed on TV by Daphne Barak said, “How sad. She was trying to win him and his family. But this is not a way to get a man. And I do know one or two things about it, you know.”

Well, whatever, Kate seems to have been more successful with William than the former French superstar thinks.

  1. Brigitte would do better to keep her opinions to herself. Kate is doing fine by herself. IMO this must be just another attempt by a has been to be back in the limelight to highlight her own agenda ANIMAL RIGHTS!!!!!. Though I don’t agree with Kate spending the weekend shooting, I’m sure she will feel guilt over killing a defenseless animal as Diana did.

  2. Yes, Trudie, you only have to mention Kate Middleton and it makes the news, which is why I do it often here. :)

  3. Quiite right, Trudie, this is just a publicity stunt by Bardot. Kate does not appear to me to need advice from anyone, let alone a has-been sexpot who is increasingly irrelevent.

  4. … a has-been sexpot …

That’s why I published the early shot of her, Gigi. ;)

  5. We have no concrete evidence that Kate Middleton actually killed anything! Who would not at least make an attempt to take part in an activity that the one they love enjoys. Its not as though Kate has just started going out with William and is blatantly trying to impress. As for all the comparisons to Diana and her dislike of hunting- its now pretty clear that she made it appear that she liked country pursuits before her marriage.

  6. John you are a cheeky little devil.

  7. I know, I know … :)

  8. If John had been drinking Long Island Ice Tea, this never would have happened! :)

  9. Too right, Gigi. :(

  10. You guys are right, Kate doesn’t need any advice and I really do believe that Kate was out shooting with Prince Charles because she may find it interesting. Ms. Bardot need to get somewhere and sit down. She has no idea what she is talking about and she doesn’t even know Kate. She is just a person who is trying to get some publicity.

  11. Spot on, Claudia. :)

And Claudius. I reckon you’re right too. :)

  12. I have to admit I went deer hunting with my husband before marrying. Then never again afterwards. But I never went so far as wearing dangly pearl earings with camouflage.

I guess the big question is: what kind of earings do go well with camouflage?

  13. If you wear earrings at all, I should say something that blends, like jade studs, or agate, or onyx. That said, I was in the hardware store recently when a couple came in for ammunition for their rifles. Both were dressed in camouflage and the woman (early 30’s) had on a diamond ring with stones so large and brilliant it looked as if her hand was on fire! She wore large diamond stud earrings, too. It looked incongruous, but she was no hunting novice, so I guess it worked for her. When they left, they got into a Jaguar XE and drove off. I hope they didn’t drive that car into the deer lease! A jeep would be better.

  14. It sounds like Ms. Bardot has been hanging around with Dame Helen Mirren. Both these ladies have expressed ridiculous opinions, as of late. Must be something in the drinking water! ;)

  15. Gigi, don’t you know diamonds are used, in hunting, to distract deer? When sunlight reflects off the diamond, the deer is momentarily blinded by the light. This makes it easier to shoot the disoriented animal. Also, some delusional hunters believe the Jaguar XE can run down a deer, just like the four-legged carnivore it’s named after. Accordingly, if you miss the deer with a rifle, you can gun it down with a fast car! :)

P.S. With all that “bling” on display, do you think the couple you witnessed might have been JR and Sue Ellen Ewing? :)

  16. John,

Just admit it … you wanted an excuse to post a picture of Brigitte Bardot in a bikini. Well…at least you didn’t feel the need to post a pic of Kate wearing her yellow bikini ….

and starting a discussion of comparison and contrast

  17. Karen,

The earrings that go with camo are small simple metal ones. Like white or yellow gold hoops.

However, I like the look Gigi described.

  18. LOL Arthur, you are hilarious! I doubt it, since JR is dead and this couple was way younger than JR and Sue Ellen. It was kind of funny, because as they roared off in their Jag, one of the clerks behind the counter said “No room for a gun rack in THAT thing!” The older man who runs the place, shook his head and said “I don’t know what the country is coming to and that’s a fact.” No one laughed, so I tried to look concerned. Everyone appeared to take it very seriously. There is a definite tradition in hunting, and I doubt that diamonds and Jags are a part of the tradition.

  19. I meant to type “everyone appeared”–strike the ‘was’–NO idea how that got in there!! :)

  20. I just heard that Prince William will lay a wreath at The Cenotaph on Rememberance Sunday next month. This is great news because now we really get a chance to see William in his future kingship role. I know Kate will be proud of him. Also, I know Diana will be proud of him as well.`

  21. Alicia, I saw the link and that doesn’t look like Kate. No way.

  22. Claudius I saw an article about William laying a wreath at the Cenotaph. Since he does not appear to spend much time with his unit, this must be the perfect excuse to put on a uniform he has not worn since passing out, to remind everyone he is still in the Army. Now what about Harry? who spends more time training and photographed more with his unit and who most importantly saw his dream of serving with his men in Iraq shattered. Harry would be the better choice.

  23. I just saw the link myself and I must say that it’s not a picture of Kate. Someone did some work to that. It’s Kate head pasted on to another persons body. It’s not funny to me at all.

  24. I just saw it, too, and I am inclined to agree with you, Claudius. These stupid tabuloids will stop at nothing. They make me sick. Trudie, where was that article about Prince William laying a wreath at the Cenotaph?

  25. Alicia, they’re both gorgeous. Or rather, Brigitte WAS and Kate IS. ;)

  26. I was going to pick up that story about William laying a wreath at the cenotaph, but I’ll probably cover it on the day with some pics.

  27. Gigi I saw it on the Royalist site. Sorry John for plugging another blog.

  28. I think Kate looks like a “Bond Girl” in her bikini, but I have to be honest and say I prefer BB’s curves. Kate needs to put a little meat back on her bones. She is looking too thin, lately, and that takes away some of her softness. Just my humble opinion. ;)

  29. Agreed, Arthur.

  30. Well, I’m not one to frown at someone for hunting - as I have many family members who are deer hunting right now. It’s something that has been done for many years - my family members do eat what they kill - and I’m sure the animals that are hunted by the Royal family are utilized much in the same way. They certainly don’t hunt to just toss the carcass aside.

  31. I am sure you are right, On the Outside. My guess is that the Royal Family consume the animals they shoot. The Queen is very much a stickler for doing the right thing in any situation, so I cannot see her hunting just to kill animals, nor allowing others in her family to do so on her estate at Balmoral.
