Prince Harry impresses at MapAction
Prince Harry has finally flown solo as Patron of one of his four charities. As the picture shows, he certainly seemed to impress the girls.

During his visit, he met volunteers and donors of MapAction, a charity devoted to delivering maps and information to workers and NGOs in disaster zones.
Harry’s military expertise in logistics and intelligence, which he learned as a reconnaissance officer with the Blues and Royals, will be used to improve the service provided by the charity.
It is believed he will become more directly involved next year when his three-year commission with the Army is expected to end.

The Prince clearly took to the Royal engagement process like a coot to a pond, impressing everyone with his warm personality and interest in people — especially the girls.

Gigi, a coot is a small water bird with a bald pate, frequently seen on English village ponds. Apart from the bald pate, Harry was equally at home doing his job.

The hair is perhaps a bit much. And his jacket sleeves are too long. If only he’d channel his great granduncle!

Gigi, this is an example of how almost anything sounds better when spoken by a Brit. You and I probably would have said: “The Prince took to the Royal engagement process like a duck to water!”

LOL Well said, Arthur! Very true!

Coot…hmmm. In the US they are known as “follower birds” that have difficulty making independent decisions. They will often follow their feathered friends into fatal disasters, simply to stay together as a group. In the west you can sometimes see dozens of them run over by trucks at a time. Really sad.

Harry can look like the dog’s dish and I still will love that kid to pieces!
Good for him – I cannot help but feel very proud even though he ain’t my kid!

Very funny, On the Oustide. I suppose you also think Harry is “the cat’s meow!”

LOL On the Outside you are a riot and Arthur, you are hilarious! I agree, I love Prince Harry no matter what he is doing or what he is wearing. He is just too cute for color TV!

I think it is really unnecessary to keep touching on “the girls”. How ridiculously overdone! Were this William at a charity event, and there was a picture of him talking to girls who participated/organized in said event, I have no doubt that this girl silliness would not have been brought up by you John… tsk, tsk.

Emily, just imagine the comments we would be making if Harry had been impressing “the boys!”
By Arthur on October 18th, 2007 at 4:56 am
Emily, there’s so little to say about Royal engagements, which are always crushingly worthy and dull, you have to find an angle somewhere to broaden and personalize the story. Try it.
In the pictures, I was struck by the faces of a number of young women who seemed entranced by him. I don’t see the problem.

Arthur, I always try to avoid cliches — like “a duck to water” — hence “coot to a pond”, which I made up incidentally.

I think Harry more so than William will be more successful in the role of royal engagements and charities like Princess Anne he is comfortable in his own skin and, like his mother makes the most of talking and listening to whoever he meets.
By Trudie on October 18th, 2007 at 11:03 am
I agree, Trudie. Harry’s a star which the Royal Family should nurture in this role. He will be a great asset over the years, I’m sure.

I agree with both of you, Trudie and John. Prince Harry is so warm and at ease that he makes people feel comfortable. Just seeing pictures of him makes me feel happy! He certainly has the gift of making people feel he values what they say, which is a tremendous asset. While Queen Elizabeth reigns, these two fine young men will grow in their Royal roles and inspire the people to greater hope and loyalty. When Prince William is on the throne, I foresee Prince Harry providing strong support for his Royal brother. Two golden Royal Princes to grace Britain, what a matchless blessing! The future looks bright and beautiful!
