Why Prince William is back with Kate Middleton

Today’s London Evening Standard is reporting some very specific information on how and why Prince William and Kate Middleton got back together following their March split.

The newspaper reports that they parted “because of his immaturity” in being photographed at various night spots with other women. Kate also has difficulties with his enjoyment of nights on the town with his in-crowd.

A friend reportedly told the Standard, “When they went on a skiing holiday in February, William insisted on taking the gang along. You had people like Thomas van Straubenzee and Guy Pelly there, all keen to do some hard partying. Kate could hardly get a word in.

“There were blazing rows and William responded by asserting what he believed was his right to go on benders with his friends. There was awkwardness between them at the Cheltenham Festival and she attended the Gold Cup alone.”

Kate and William — referred to as the Royal couple — were apparently reunited at a party at 17th Century mansion Upton Viva, given by Sam Waley-Cohen, son of racehorse breeder and trainer Robert Waley-Cohen.

As Royal Anecdotes reported at the time, guests said that Kate and William were seen having an intimate conversation at the event. “The body language said it all,” according to one.

During their recent holiday in the Seychelles, William and Kate are said to have “made an agreement that could underpin their future together” including how to tackle “two serious threats to their happiness” — William’s liking for lads’ nights out and the paparazzi.

Leading London lawyers have been consulted over the hounding of Kate by photographers, although they have been told that there is little that can be done under current British law.

The newspaper speculates that William and Kate will announce their engagement in 2009 when the Prince’s military service is complete, and predicts a Royal wedding in 2010.

Clearly, the meeting with the Queen and Prince Philip at Balmoral next month will be a weighty affair.

Will Cherie Blair attack Royal Family?

The former self-styled First Lady of Britain, Cherie Blair, is to write her memoirs. The book is said to have attracted a £1.5m ($3m) advance from a British publisher and could make even more in America.

Cherie Blair grovelling to the King of Norway

The volume, Cherie Blair: The Autobiography is timed for publication in October 2008, just before the Labour Party Conference. Speculation has it that she’ll go hammer and tongs for her arch-enemy, Prime Minister Gordon Brown.

However, it’s thought likely she will also attack the Royal Family. Her republican sympathies made life difficult for the Queen and Prince Philip over the past ten years, and they were probably relieved to see the back of her when Tony Blair recently resigned.

She relentlessly refused to curtsey to Her Majesty even though she was pictured grovelling to the King of Norway outside 10 Downing Street (see picture). Her speciality was openly yawning at Royal occasions. The annual weekend at Balmoral was said to be “bloody” by those who witnessed it.

The Queen is reported to have described her as “hectoring and aloof” when she turned up at functions, and Prince Philip could hardly bring himself to speak to her at all.

Cherie’s relationship with the proud Princess Anne was not much better. “That bitch”, Ms Blair called her after a Buckingham Palace party.

The book will be welcomed by gossip-mongers, those who love to hate, and especially anyone waiting for Cherie Blair to fly her true colours unimpeded by Downing Street protocol.

It should be a “bloody” affair.

Kate Middleton back in Balmoral

Kate Middleton There’s some interesting news from Katie Nicholl in the MoS concerning the movements of Kate Middleton and Prince William. Their under-the-radar love affair is set to come back into the spotlight as William plans to take her to Balmoral in October to meet the Queen and Prince Philip.

Katie writes, “Until now Kate has enjoyed a warm welcome from the Monarch but their next meeting could be frostier.”

I wonder. Would William subject his long-term girlfriend to a painful encounter with his grandmother if he knew she would meet with froideur and an unfriendly welcome? It would be embarrassing to everyone and doesn’t ring true to me.

More likely though, the MoS says, “While I’m told there is to be no engagement announcement for the foreseeable future, they are very much an item again and have already planned another romantic retreat.”

A friend is quoted as saying, “William said the Seychelles holiday with Kate was perfect because it was just the two of them. It went so well they have planned another short trip to Scotland. William was originally going to take a group of friends stag-shooting to Balmoral, but he’s decided he wants to have some time with Kate. They are very much in love and want to enjoy their relationship out of the spotlight before they go public again.”

That sounds like smart thinking. They really need to firm up on their future before coming out in public again.

Kate Middleton tipped for Melbourne Cup

I’ve been watching this story for some time without wishing to comment on it.

However, it’s still in the news in Australia so here it is.

The Melbourne Herald Sun — “Australia’s biggest-selling daily newspaper” — is tipping Kate Middleton to be the main draw at the Melbourne Cup Handicap in November (spring, down under). The Cup is Oz’s top horse race.

The paper says :

PRINCE William’s girl Kate Middleton is still on top of the VRC and Channel 7’s list to be the big international name at the Spring Racing Carnival. … If she says yes, the publicity around her first trip to Australia will be enormous.

Middleton arriving in the Birdcage at Flemington would guarantee overseas coverage. Another big name likely to be at the Melbourne Cup is Justin Timberlake, who is in town at the same time touring.

Royal Anecdotes’ guess?

She won’t go.
