Why Prince William is back with Kate Middleton

Today’s London Evening Standard is reporting some very specific information on how and why Prince William and Kate Middleton got back together following their March split.

The newspaper reports that they parted “because of his immaturity” in being photographed at various night spots with other women. Kate also has difficulties with his enjoyment of nights on the town with his in-crowd.

A friend reportedly told the Standard, “When they went on a skiing holiday in February, William insisted on taking the gang along. You had people like Thomas van Straubenzee and Guy Pelly there, all keen to do some hard partying. Kate could hardly get a word in.

“There were blazing rows and William responded by asserting what he believed was his right to go on benders with his friends. There was awkwardness between them at the Cheltenham Festival and she attended the Gold Cup alone.”

Kate and William — referred to as the Royal couple — were apparently reunited at a party at 17th Century mansion Upton Viva, given by Sam Waley-Cohen, son of racehorse breeder and trainer Robert Waley-Cohen.

As Royal Anecdotes reported at the time, guests said that Kate and William were seen having an intimate conversation at the event. “The body language said it all,” according to one.

During their recent holiday in the Seychelles, William and Kate are said to have “made an agreement that could underpin their future together” including how to tackle “two serious threats to their happiness” — William’s liking for lads’ nights out and the paparazzi.

Leading London lawyers have been consulted over the hounding of Kate by photographers, although they have been told that there is little that can be done under current British law.

The newspaper speculates that William and Kate will announce their engagement in 2009 when the Prince’s military service is complete, and predicts a Royal wedding in 2010.

Clearly, the meeting with the Queen and Prince Philip at Balmoral next month will be a weighty affair.

  1. So… maybe all that clubbing that Kate was doing during their split was her way of showing William that it wasn’t all that fun to be left home alone while he was out clubbing with his friends.

This article makes a lot of sense to me, and shows that Kate isn’t just a “doormat.” She has a good idea how to make their relationship strong, and isn’t willing to settle for a weak relationship. Good for her!

    Thanks for the info, John.

  2. I think that it is very likely that these two will have a good life together. It doesn’t hurt that you have to do some thinking before you decide to settle down.

  3. I’ve always thought that Kate has a good head on her shoulders and lots of character. She stood up to William’s wayward lifestyle and seems to have laid down terms for her involvement.

That William appears to have accepted them, is a very good sign of things to come.

  4. So if this is true, does that mean that they will be a couple and everyone knows it? If Kate is going to visit the Queen next month, will that be the time for William and Kate to go public? They are going to have publicity and papparazzi, regardless. I don’t mean that they should do a photo-op or be seen together in an obvious way, just that they let it be known that they are dating, like Harry and Chelsy have.

If it is true that there will be no engagement until 2009, which many other sources have also stated, that is a long time to continue to keep people guessing. And what would be the point?

  5. I agree, SadieBoo. What would be the point? I’d rather have them plan for a long engagement, even if that isn’t typical for royals. And then Kate would get the royal protection she needs.

  6. It sounds a little like Sophie and Edward to me. The public will recognize that William and Kate are a couple, there will be a lengthy pre-engagement and no official engagement, i.e. presentation of a ring, until a few months before the wedding.

The speculation of an engagement in 2009 and wedding in 2010 should keep the wolves at bay for awhile. This way William and Kate will have some peace without everyone anticipating an engagement next Christmas, Valentine’s Day, Easter, Ground Hog Day, you get my point.

As long William and Kate are together, there will be photographers trying to get a picture at every turn. That is something they have to accept. It goes with the territory. I just hope these relentless photographers won’t be camped out on Kate’s doorstep waiting for the “will today be the day” picture, when it appears that day is probably 24 months away!

  7. Has anyone else noticed a srtiking resemblance between Kate Middleton and Crown Princess Mary of Denmark? These two attractive ladies could be sisters. Crown Prince Frederik and Crown Princess Mary appear to be very happy together. Perhaps it’s an omen for William and Kate?

  8. I have never thought about the resemblance, Arthur, but you are right! Every time I see pictures of Crown Princess Mary, she looks fabulous! She really knows how to wear what suits her.

I think that I am just ready for Kate to start going to Royal engagements in gorgeous clothes and hats – you just know she will look gorgeous!

  9. SadieBoo, Crown Princess Mary seems very natural and unpretentious, which are qualities I also see in Kate Middleton.

  10. I am very happy (if this is true, seeing it comes from the loosely-sourced British tabloids).;)

Ever since they got back together, I got the feeling it was on Kate’s terms not William’s. I remember reading last spring that the whole breakup was precipitated by Kate confronting William about his cat-toming ways and asking if there was a commitment in the cards. When he hesitated, the whole thing collapsed quickly.

Since they have been back together, you don’t see pictures of Wills at clubs. Hopefully, he has matured enough to realize that at 25 constant clubbing begins to look (and be) immature.

  11. Alicia, the London Evening Standard is one of the better tabloids and part of the Daily Mail group. I give this piece high marks for credibility, although some details may not be exact.

  12. Yes she does look like Princess Mary of Denmark. I have always thought that. Since Kate is going to see the Queen next month, we will evently see Kate at some events. But she will keep a low profile as long as she can. I really like the plan. But until we see Kate at public events, we can look at Princess Mary and just guess how Kate will look during public engagements. It would not surprise me a bit if we see Kate & William out together soon.

  13. I know what you mean, Arthur – I get the feeling that Mary is pretty down-to-earth. I wonder if I feel that way because she wasn’t from a Royal family? Plus, I saw a picture of her taking out the trash while on vacation, so that influences my opinion too! I think that the British royals are more entrenched in pomp and pageantry than the Europeans. Is that because of the British Empire being so prominent in recent history (meaning the last 150 years)? I know they were prominent before that also, but so were some other European countries.

As for Kate, I am not sure I see her as unpretentious, or particularly down-to-earth. And I don’t mean that as an insult. I mean that she comes from a wealthy family, has been well-schooled and has been able to afford to take her time about finding a job. Not very different from other girls in her position. I think that she is a self-confident, intelligent young woman, and that will serve her well if she marries her prince! Both princes have chosen smart, confident women, and I think that is great and in a way, a relief.

Please understand, I DO NOT mean the comments about Kate, that last paragraph, as an insult.

  14. I understand perfectly what you are saying, SadieBoo. What I meant to convey is that Kate doesn’t seem like the type of person who would bring her own mattress to the hospital or have Clarence House send over specially cooked meals the way Camilla did. Kate’s parents are wealthy now, but they weren’t always that way. Kate’s background is more down to earth than lofty, as I believe is the case with CP Mary.

  15. I said they were taking the Edward- Sophie route in their relationship. I think Edward after watching the mistakes of his brothers with respect to quick courtships and engagements only to end badly, made sure his wife was well equipped to handle the role. I think Edward may have influenced William. Kate appears to have common sense and uses it wisely when it comes to the media. I say let them take their time.

  16. Trudie, wasn’t Sophie also given an apartment at Buck House during the long engagement period? Maybe something similar will be discussed with the Queen when Willam and Kate meet with her at Balmoral? I know John reported Kate was given a security pass to Clarence House, but HM’s approval would probably be needed before Kate could move in. This certainly would allay some of the concerns about Kate’s security.

  17. Yes Sophie did live at Buckingham Palace during her long engagement and she attended some of the royal events like when in 1997 she was sitting with the royal family when the royal Yacht Britannia was decommissioned. So I really think we will see Kate out in public soon or Maybe sometime next year. But it’s very important to respect their privacy and let them do what they got to do.

  18. Sadie, I agree with you. Both Princes have chosen well-educated graduates who are comfortable in their own skins, don’t have any visible hangups or aristocratic “vices”, and seem more sensible than their fellas.

    Good choices, lads!

  19. I have to agree, Mary has the perfect mix of being down to earth and yet has the style. What i like about her and her Crown Prince is how happy they always look, they are a family first and royals second. I hope William and Kate will be the same.

  20. If this is all true, then it sounds like Mz Kate will be wearing the pants
in that marriage. Has Wm. dated many girls to know if he is ready to
    settle down with this one?
