New Diana documentary tomorrow

Yet another television documentary on the last days of Diana, Princess of Wales, is due to screen on ITV tomorrow. Diana’s Last Summer has a similar theme to the recent Channel 4 film which examined the role of the paparazzi in the car accident that killed Diana, Dodi Fayed and Henri Paul, the driver.

In the film, former News of the World editor Phil Hall says, “I felt huge responsibility for what happened and I think everyone in the media did. It’s difficult because we knew the full story, we knew that Diana was helping newspapers and yeah, the driver was drunk. But my view is that if the paparazzi hadn’t been following her the car wouldn’t have been speeding and, you know, the accident may never have happened.”

The documentary tells what ITV calls, “the definitive story of Diana’s love-hate relationship with the photographers who followed her every move”.

It screens new interviews and pictures from the paparazzi who followed her before the crash in the Pont de l’Alma tunnel as well as her former security chief, Ken Wharfe.

Patrick Jephson, Diana’s former aide, comments, “The Paris paparazzi were a well-known phenomenon. They were a kind of circus. They would chase the Royal motorcade on motorcycles. They had pillion passengers carrying heavy television cameras. It all contributed to the sense of being inside a Wild West stagecoach while bandits were attacking it.”

No accident in history has been so scrutinized, pored over and retold as much as this one has. Let’s hope the 10th anniversary in ten days, and the Inquest in October will finally lay the matter to rest.

  1. This matter will never be laid to rest there are so many who want to make money off her still and then there are the Germaine Greers and C&C and company who still attack her to make themselves try to look good. Besides the Papparazzi I believe were not even there at the exact time of the crash they arrived a few minutes later. Though Jephson is right the French Papparazzi are no better than the robber barons of the 19th century parasites that they were.

  2. Well said, Trudie, very true. Furthermore, the actual truth about Princess Diana’s death has not come into the light of day, in my opinion.

  3. Trudie and Gigi, since you seem to be very fond of Diana, I would like to tell you something before going to bed, because it’s French news, maybe you wont heard of it until it’s captured by cheap british tabloids. A serious book is going to be published, relaying 10 years of work about the inquiry, and it will tell that Diana was pregnant about 9 or 10 weeks. It does not tell that it was a conspiracy or a murder or something, just an accident. There is the document, from l’ Assistance Publique, Hopitaux de Paris, (so thats not rubbish) dated of the 31 August 1997, given to the minister of Interior, at that time, Jean Pierre Chevenement, and to the minister oh health, Bernard Kouchner and to his colleague of Foreign Affairs Hubert Vedrine and to the anti criminality squad boss, Martine Monteil, who was head of the French inquiry for the first year and has concluded to an accident. The 4 people still work, and at the government, so it just cant be delirium. I want to say that because I dont want you to believe the rubbish of the tabloids which like to deform every information coming from France for selling their stories :-) The document was never denied, and was never said to be a fake. The French didnt want to make it public because of code of ethics.
(Hence, and this is just my opinion, she was very quickly embalmed, and has said to the paps that they will have a surprise?)
Dodi, who wasnt with Diana 10 weeks before their death cant be the father, the logic would be that it’s Hasnat Khan.

  4. According to the British coroner, who examined her soon after the crash, she definitely wasn’t pregnant. Also a female French doctor in the hospital said she wasn’t pregnant. The embalming removed the evidence, so anything published now is using the same material that was available then. But the two I quoted actually examined her body before it was embalmed.

  5. Lily I seriously doubt that Diana was pregnant at the time of the crash. As John pointed out two Doctors one French and one British examined her. I also believe Diana would not have gotten herself pregnant without the benefit of marriage out of respect for her children and their positions, despite her feelings for the RF she would not have undermined the monarchy in such a fashion.

  6. Well, what Ive said? They always deny and deform what the France says! ;-)
Trudie, doctors dont sell informations. You lose your place if you do. Otherwise the Queen’s psychologist would be millionnaire today. They must have professional ethics. If it was rubbish then I would not have written it here. In western countries doctors have to sign something called the Hippocratic Oath. You lose your place if you speak or if you let leak informations.
You know ofcourse you can doubt because you cant understand if you’re not in the country. Do you know what is l’Assistance Publique? Do you know what is the AFP? No. So, ofcourse, for you, it’s rubbish for the nth time and I understand.
Do you really think, that after what the circus her death has provoked, 2 doctors are going to tell the world hey she was pregnant? At least if it was rubbish they wouldnt have involved the names that Ive mentionned, and certainly not Martine Monteil, who hates consipacies, lies and etc. This woman never denied that she was pregnant, and never denied that she was not aware. The embalming thing was something from my imagination, John ;-) . I never said that she was quiclky embalming because of a pregnancy. Trudie, a woman cant always manage to be careful with these things. If she was pregant, it may be possible that she havent planned it. Simple as that :-)

  7. I doubt that Princess Diana was pregnant also. Not just because of the doctors’ examinations, but because, had Princess Diana been pregnant, Charles and his gang of bully boys would have blown that all over the media to further damage Princess Diana’s reputation. Charles doesn’t care about hurting anyone’s feelings, so the collateral damage to his sons would not be an issue for him.

  8. Well Charles is not Mystic Meg and unless he was living in Diana’s brain Im wondering how he could know such a personnal thing. There are these photos, during her last summer, you know, with her countless swimsuit collection, and these photos where she was wearing a short blue dress before, but I dont remember the event. Well, she seems to have massive though swelling on them then. If it was something not serious that Ive read in a not serious place then I wouldnt have written it here. It would have been tasteless from me.
