Kate Middleton is back with Prince William
As Royal Anecdotes has been predicting for two months, the worthy-of-Wimbledon romance between Kate Middleton and Prince William is definitely back on.
Both the Sun and the Daily Mail are carrying this story today. The Mail reports, “Prince William has persuaded his long-time girlfriend Kate Middleton to get back together again 12 weeks after the couple split, it was claimed today. Rumours that the couple … had decided to rekindle their relationship have been rife since she appeared on Sunday at a concert in honour of William’s late mother Diana.”
A source told the Sun, “William has persuaded Kate the problems of dating a future King are a price worth paying. Only when they took a step back did they have space to examine how they really felt about each other. They have now talked through their problems and are closer than ever.”
There has been no official confirmation from William’s aides yet. “It is not something we are going to comment on at all, I am afraid.”
The Sun is saying that the couple are expected to make the news public soon at a Polo match. They are also downplaying expectations of a Royal engagement any time soon.
As Royal Anecdotes speculated after William’s announcement that he was leaving the Army early, it is “very unlikely” that the couple will get engaged before January 2009 when William is set to hand in his commission.
So now we know.
Or do we?

There are some people who will go apeshit
:-)
Good. Now I hope it won’t end again at the end of the summer.

Well, I thought the “stepping down from the military” news was very interesting back in the day (which was what, like, two weeks ago?). Anyway, I wondered what would have prompted that decision, when one considered that it was William’s love of the army that supposedly triggered a break up in the first place (or at least partly triggered it).
If it’s true that William and Kate had only broken up for 4 days, or even if they were already dating by June 9th, then he would have announced his decision to leave the army AFTER the two of them had reconciled, ie, the two decisions go hand in hand.
Which is kind of interesting when you really start to think about it . . .

You never know with this one. It could run and run and go up and down like the stock market.
I’m guessing it will end well, though — depending on what you think is “well”, of course.

Why didn’t they just keep going on in secret like they have been since April? Now the press will be all over them again and the next thing you know there will be cracks in the relationship. Everyone needs some private time and William and Kate obviously put theirs to good use. I don’t want the glare of publicity to wreck havoc upon them again!

If they are back together, I am very pleased, of course. Let us all hope that this time around, the press photographers will give them some privacy. The stress of a Royal romance is sufficient without someone leaping from behind a shrub and taking photographs at all hours of the day and night.
The press want manners, of that I am certain!

The press give them a break? Pigs will fly first! *sigh*
Well, if they do - Kate will have to realize sooner or later that if she’s going to be in Will’s life - then it’s par for the course. It isn’t right - she’s as human as anyone else and entitled to go about her business like anyone else without the press hounding her like they did Diana. For heaven’s sake - everything Diana did was BIG NEWS no matter how mundane it was. Yet the public lapped it up.
Ironically though, if they were to get engaged, then she would fall under the Royal protection umbrella. Until then, she’s on her own (unless she hires someone for protection).
By On The Outside on July 6th, 2007 at 5:42 pm
I think she has some protection, no? I seem to remember that after the break up it was reported she would keep her protection during a “transition time.” Good thing the protection never went away, I guess.
I’m kind of surprised if it is really true that they plan to make their relationship public again. The press will be even worse this time than it was before, and both are media savvy enough to know that. You can’t be of their generation and not know what the media–or for that matter, anonymous commenters on a blog–are doing.
And that, again makes me think that there is even more to the storyf. Well, of course there is more to the story. But I mean more to the story than just a “make up” after one of many break ups.

I wonder if there is any effective way to control the press in Britain in so far as it involves their coverage of the Royal Family. About the only thing that keeps the photographers at bay here in America is the Secret Service getting cranky. (They often are.) Of course the photographers still persist, but the Secret Service keep them at a distance when the photographers try to get too close. (They often do.) If Prince William and Kate are indeed back together and the press ruin this for a second time, I am going to get cranky as well!

A free press is the bastion of British life, Gigi. I know it gets intrusive at times, but it really does guarantee ordinary people protection against the crooks — economic and political.
We’ve had enough of them over the past 20 years, so we’re grateful that the press — for all its faults — is always vigilant against those who would be tyrants.

I really don’t think the press was the reason they split up. I think it was just a case of far away fields are green from William. He had spent his college years in a settled relationship holding dinner parties like a married couple, he joined the army, full of lads having the crack (as we say in the emerald isle; slang for great fun nothing to do with drugs) and he felt he was missing out so he ditched the girl. Once he did he realised that the crack wasn’t really that great, just a bunch of guys going out getting hammered and sleeping with random easy women and he realsied what he had and missed it. Hence he went back. That is my theory anyway.
Of course my husband, the cynic, says it shows that he couldn’t get top class totty - by that he means the highest standard of totty rather than actual class status.

Oh my aching head…

Sorry, John, but I am aware that photo journalism exists for one reason alone–to make money. Nothing noble about it and they certainly protect no one, as we have seen with the tragedy of Princess Diana’s death.

Where is it confirmed they are back together?(Supposed friends, newspaper editors trying to keep the fairytale going, well he dumped her several times already, just one was majorly reported, I doubt these two will end up together) It sounds like more press dreaming. She looks as miserable as ever, even the photo at the club, looked like William was eating and Kate was sad, she went home with her brother. It sounds like more press hoping. I don’t believe a word of it, just like the wedding and engagement reports for the past three years, ended with a dumping and press eating crow. Kate should marry the press editors they seem to love her more than the William.

Could be today, Trudie.

This is really funny. When there are rumors about a bad treatment or something like that with no proof, from Wills to Kate, then it is all true, but when it is obvious that these 2 are back together then it is all rubbish and just a dream from the press. And suddenly an official announcement is expected otherwise it does mean nothing is true. Come on ladies, you won’t have insomnias or a nervous breakdown if they are back together or if they get married (I hope for you)
By Lilyfromfrance on July 7th, 2007 at 10:11 am
Actually, this is all quite entertaining.
It is fun to have the will-he-and-when/time-and-again scenario and it definitely gives us more to discuss on Royal Anecdotes!
Now that Prince Harry is not being deployed to a forward area, I have postponed having insomnia or a nervous breakdown, dear Lily. I only have a meltdown on life and death issues. Also, two in one year is my absolute limit (Prince Harry’s possible deployment and Princess Diana’s 10th death anniversary and 46th birthday.) It will take months before my tear ducts are operational once more. I simply cannot afford to have the nervous breakdown I deserve over when or if Prince William will propose to Kate. For one thing, I can’t afford kleenex at the rate I am using it during these critical situations.
By Gigi on July 7th, 2007 at 4:48 pm
Well, Gigi, I’m convinced Royal Anecdotes’ Open Letter to Sir Richard Dannat saved Harry from Iraq. That means we also saved a U.S. forest from being converted to Kleenex, which is more than Live Earth is doing today.
By John on July 7th, 2007 at 4:58 pm
I agree with you that the Royal Anecdotes Open Letter to Sir Richard spared Prince Harry, John, and I will be forever grateful to you for that master stroke of persuasion. Had harm befallen our young Prince Harry, no amount of kleenex could have sufficiently dried my tears along with the tears of the entire world. I also agree with you about Live Earth, especially when I read that the artists performing at Gore’s ego trip concert were flying a combined 222,000+ miles. Talk about a carbon footprint!
By Gigi on July 7th, 2007 at 7:39 pm
Gore should be made to offset all that by lying down in a darkened room for the next 50 years.
By John on July 8th, 2007 at 10:25 am
LOL John, you are hilarious! I read today in the print media that the concert fell considerably short of expectations. I am not surprised.
