Channel 4 Refuses Request From Princes
Ignoring pleas from Prince William and Prince Harry, Channel 4 has decided to go ahead with its documentary on their mother, Princess Diana’s death tonight, and to broadcast pictures taken at the scene of the crash.

Young Princes William and Harry at their mother’s funeral in 1997
The Princes’ private secretary, Jamie Lowther-Pinkerton, has written to C4 on their behalf asking that the station remove the images showing Princess Diana receiving medical treatment following her 1997 Paris car crash. He wrote: “Put simply, if it were your or my mother dying in that tunnel, would we want the scene broadcast to the nation? Indeed, would the nation so want it?”
It seems the broadcaster is more interested in the publicity than doing the right thing by Diana’s bereaved family, not to mention a future King of England. This is a very poor show on their part.
Our comments on the documentary will appear here tomorrow.

The letter would have had a better effect if the Princes had written and William delivered it himself!!! This seems to be a half-hearted attempt to protect Diana for PR. Time to stop hiding behind flunkeys and speak out themselves if they care all that much for the mother they suppossedly loved.

To the Tower with them!

So…you think it’s terrible…but you’re going to watch it? So you can “comment on it”?
You ARE the taget audience.

I thought the very same thing, Trudie. A letter from Prince William written in his own hand would have been more appropriate and perhaps more persuasive than a letter from a courtier. On the other hand, the people who run this channel appear to have no sense of decency, no moral compass. This program is a new low in broadcasting and is quite infamous in my opinion. I suggest that all who disapprove of this outrageous program demonstrate this in two ways: do not watch the show and do not purchase products from the companies who sponsor the program. I am sickened by the irresponsibility and insensitivity of this program and those who produced it.

John, I understand that you will need to watch the program so that you can provide commentary for your company sites. I do not envy you this necessity.

Thanks, Gigi, I’ll bear it as best I can. I may need a lot of tea when it’s over.
By John on June 6th, 2007 at 4:14 pm
I have no doubt that you will need tea, John, but you may also need to fortify yourself with a far stronger beverage! Have a stiff brandy and soda, for all our sakes.

Thanks for the concern, Gigi, but Trudie will never forgive me if I don’t reach for Long Island Iced Tea in my moment of need.
By John on June 6th, 2007 at 4:30 pm
LOL If you are having a glass of Long Island Iced Tea, please remember to remain sitting the entire time. It might be safer if you are lying down, actually.
That concoction has a kick like a British mule, according to legend.

I didn’t know we had mules in Britain, Gigi — apart from in the Government.

You might consider listing the commercial sponsors tomorrow so a record exists and so the people who didn’t watch can still boycott or write to the sponsors with their concerns.

The British army uses them for portage purposes, or did. My Great Uncle treated a British Army enlisted man during WWI whose jaw had been broken while caring for a British Army mule. Apparently these mules take a dim view of being bothered by anyone for any reason and have a very powerful kick!

That was 90 years ago, Gigi. A little before my time.

Mine too, but I doubt mules have changed much.
West Point, our military academy here in the USA has a mule as their mascot and the cadets ride him onto the field at games. He does not look placid, nor benign
