Pictures of Royal City of Exeter
We’ve just created a Flickr photostream of life in Exeter, England, generally regarded as one of the most loyal cities in the UK to the Monarchy.

It’s where I live, of course, and I’m going to build up a store of such shots over the summer.
You can see them here : Flickr Photostream.

Great photos, John. But what makes Exeter a “royal city”?

It’s said to be the most loyal Royalist city apart from Windsor, Evelyn. Debateable, of course.

What a lovely place to live.

Beautiful photographs, John and thank you so much for sharing! I agree with Lily that you certainly live in a lovely place!

Thanks, everyone. It’s a great city, but was bombed badly in WW2, so there are some pockets of the old town left, but a lot of it has had to be rebuilt in modern styles.

This looks like heaven on earth. This is what I think of when I think of England. Absolutely gorgeous John, no wonder you have such a wonderful disposition all the time!

Btw the Queen is here, I can’t wait to watch her on TV at the Derby. I’m so glad she finally gets to attend. Yummy mint julips and the American ladies will be in hats!!! I hope to catch a glimpse of her Tuesday as she will be in D.C. and at the White House — I work one block from the White House.

We’ve had some footage of her meeting survivors of the Tech massacre and also at Jamestown. She’ll really enjoy the Derby and the horsieness of Kentucky. She also knows the Bush family well, so it will be like old times.

The Queen has been in Kentucky before, when she stayed with the Will Farish family at their Lane’s End Farms. The Bush family are very close friends of Will Farish, who is the man who got the senior Bushes their dog, Millie. Millie is the dog who gave birth to five puppies in the White House while President George Herbert Walker Bush was President and then “co-wrote” a book about her days there.

Thanks for the info, Gigi.
Incidentally, I’ve now added a few more photos of Exeter to our Flickr stream, plus some commentary. Click on the link in the post.
Maybe some of our contributors have got their own Flickr sets. It would be great to see them.

John the Exeter is lovely it looks like something out of a storybook. I saw the derby today and HM looked so pretty in a light green and a matching hat with a pink crown it looked like the color of a mint julep. As promised here is the recipe for a long Island iced tea cocktail:
1/2 ounce of vodka
1/2 ounce of gin
1/2 ounce of light rum
1/2 ounce of tequila
the juice of half of lemon
cola for taste and garnish with a slice of lemon. Enjoy!!!

Trudie, if I swallowed that concoction, I doubt I would come out alive. That’s the most lethal cocktail since Molotov invented his.
Yes, the Queen seemed to enjoy the Derby. Now she can have a little time to herself before heading for the Beltway.

I wonder if the Queen enjoyed my favorite the Winner Street Sense. That is one of the most spectacular horses I’ve seen in recent years aside from the late great Barbaro I can see this horse winning the Triple Crown. I also hope HM and PP enjoyed having a mint julep but come one John where is your sense of adventure? Just try one Ice tea. Cheers!!!!

I’m afraid I haven’t got a lemon handy, so the experience will have to wait, Trudie.

Wow, that is a beautiful city. We just don’t have places like that here in the US of A.

And, apart from wartime bomb damage, it’s practically unspoiled. One of our little secrets down here in the West Country. Don’t tell anyone or they’ll all want to come.

On the Outside: I’m thinking we do in the States. Vermont comes to mind. I’m sure there are others.
