Kate and Chelsy Invited to Diana Concert
By Priscilla Valdez [Competition Runner-up]
According to Adam Helliker of the Sunday Express, Princes William and Harry invited their girlfriends, Kate Middleton and Chelsy Davy, to A Concert for Diana to celebrate the life of their mother, Diana, Princess of Wales on the 1st of July.
Being that is an engagement coordinated by the Princes along with other organizers and with Prince Charles in attendance, is it a sign that Kate and Chelsy are officially welcomed into the Royal fold? More importantly, will their presence overshadow the concert’s purpose: to commemorate Diana?
Both girls have increasingly proven themselves to be confidantes the Princes can trust. Kate has been praised for maintaining her discretion and support to William since their years together at St. Andrews. Even in the aftermath of William’s “passionate embrace” at Boujis with Tess Shepherd, the daughter of a Scottish farmer, Kate showed grace and poise that most aspire to at the Cheltenham races. The couple even wore coordinating tweed suits; showing, even in times of crisis, their bond is strong.
In the press, Harry and Chelsy have had a bumpier ride. There were allegations of Harry’s wandering eye with television presenter Natalie Pinkham and his hard partying. The press reported that Chelsy was often worried and upset about his ways. Lately, the couple has established they have matured and are as solid as ever. Chelsy has even cut short her gap year vacation to be with Harry before he leaves for Iraq.
Both of the girls dominate media coverage at events they attend with the Princes. Is it possible that if they choose to go to the concert, their presence will direct media attention away from Diana and onto them? Should the girls opt out of going?
Personally, I feel if the boys want their girlfriends there with them celebrating with the other concert guests — then so be it.
Will Kate and Chelsy be on stage to open the concert or present a song with their boyfriends? Probably not, but I think it’s amazing that William and Harry have found someone they can count on for support and encouragement.

Even the royal girlfriends could not overshadow Diana!! especially Kate. Concert goers are there to celebrate Diana and could care less about the royal girlfriends.

I hope so Trudie. Some people think their presence shifts the focus of the whatever event they attend.

Time has moved on. People don’t like to live in constant anguish. Few people turn out for Diana occasions now. I’m guessing that Kate and Chelsy will be the main events of the Diana Concert — if it goes ahead.

Time may have moved on John but this is not about anguish, it is a celebration of the life of Diana. I think now that when people think of her they smile and remember. I’m sorry but the girls lack the charisma of Diana and dead or alive Diana still has it.

I whole heartedly agree with you Trudie. (although we can count on the press to make sure the girls, especially kate-take the spotlight)

Fantastic post Pri! It’s succinct and to the point, and I agree with everything you’ve said. You are obviously a winner as well.

I hope you are wrong, John, about the concert. If it is not well-attended, Prince William and Prince Harry will be deeply hurt.

Very good article, Pri! Well done! I agree that there will be an interesting dynamic at the concert and I also think that Charles and Camilla will be in an awkward situation there as well. Let us all hope that everyone leaves their egos at home and remembers why Prince William and Prince Harry arranged the concert to begin with and that all have the grace and good sense to honor the memory of Princess Diana.

Oh! I obviously wrote this before the events of this weekend!! So…it changes it a little bit.

Pri your commentary was great but I wonder now that William has been photographed with his hand on a womans breast at a bar whether or not Kate will still be around concert time.

Thanks Trudie! We’ll have to see if William and Kate can get through this and be together or break up.

Nicely done Pri!

Speaking of awkward situations, there is a lengthy article in the Daily Mail regarding the arrangements of the Memorial Service that is planned to mark the Tenth Anniversary of the death of Princess Diana. In the article, both the venue and the prelate who has been chosen to preside are criticized as inappropriate and inadequate. Further, there is once again criticism that Camilla has been invited and will be seated next to Charles in the front row of the chapel. I am perplexed about the choice of the small chapel and the prelate who apparently barely knew Princess Diana. Regarding the invitation to and the seating assignment for Camilla, I do not see how this can be avoided. She is the wife of Charles and must be included and seated next to him.
