Mirror Apologizes for Kate Middleton Photo

The Daily Mirror has apologized to Kate Middleton after publishing a picture of her on her way to work in yesterday’s paper (see picture here).

Kate had put in an official complaint to the Press Complaints’ Council, a voluntary body administered by newspapers themselves. She brushed off stories of a rift between herself and Prince William with the comment: “It’s something I expect. There will always be girls throwing themselves at him and members of the press making something of it. It means nothing to me.”

The Mirror story used a momentary facial expression to suggest something of a building feud between the two.

Kate Middleton Consults Lawyers

We hear that Kate Middleton is consulting her lawyers about a picture (shown, left) published by the Daily Mirror this morning.

It appears she took exception either to the revealing nature of the photo, or the way it was taken as she was on her way to work with a cup of coffee.

The Mirror plays up the “trouble for Wills” theme that’s going around at the moment :

“It’s that certain look women get. You can’t quite describe it — but you know it means trouble … Which probably spells a severe spot of earache for boyfriend Prince William. Especially after his recent laddish escapades involving a couple of attractive girls.”

An onlooker is reported as saying : “She didn’t seem very happy. But then again neither would most girls who’d heard all sorts of stories about their bloke.”

Kate and Chelsy Invited to Diana Concert

By Priscilla Valdez [Competition Runner-up]

According to Adam Helliker of the Sunday Express, Princes William and Harry invited their girlfriends, Kate Middleton and Chelsy Davy, to A Concert for Diana to celebrate the life of their mother, Diana, Princess of Wales on the 1st of July.

Being that is an engagement coordinated by the Princes along with other organizers and with Prince Charles in attendance, is it a sign that Kate and Chelsy are officially welcomed into the Royal fold? More importantly, will their presence overshadow the concert’s purpose: to commemorate Diana?

Both girls have increasingly proven themselves to be confidantes the Princes can trust. Kate has been praised for maintaining her discretion and support to William since their years together at St. Andrews. Even in the aftermath of William’s “passionate embrace” at Boujis with Tess Shepherd, the daughter of a Scottish farmer, Kate showed grace and poise that most aspire to at the Cheltenham races. The couple even wore coordinating tweed suits; showing, even in times of crisis, their bond is strong.

In the press, Harry and Chelsy have had a bumpier ride. There were allegations of Harry’s wandering eye with television presenter Natalie Pinkham and his hard partying. The press reported that Chelsy was often worried and upset about his ways. Lately, the couple has established they have matured and are as solid as ever. Chelsy has even cut short her gap year vacation to be with Harry before he leaves for Iraq.

Both of the girls dominate media coverage at events they attend with the Princes. Is it possible that if they choose to go to the concert, their presence will direct media attention away from Diana and onto them? Should the girls opt out of going?

Personally, I feel if the boys want their girlfriends there with them celebrating with the other concert guests — then so be it.

Will Kate and Chelsy be on stage to open the concert or present a song with their boyfriends? Probably not, but I think it’s amazing that William and Harry have found someone they can count on for support and encouragement.

Who would WANT to be Kate Middleton?

By Cate Washburn [Competition Winner]

I know … I know … who wouldn’t want to be Kate Middleton right now? She has the support of a successful family, is attractive and stylish, and happens to be dating a Prince who is the future King of England?

Kate Middleton

What isn’t there to like about this package? Well, let’s think a bit deeper here. There are things that we see in her life, as well as the many things that we don’t.

Every day she is tracked by the paparazzi. She certainly couldn’t go outside in her bathrobe to get the paper. You probably did that this morning with a cup of coffee in hand. No more shopping in stores or meeting friends for lunch without discomfort. How about those occasional bad days? No, this wouldn’t be allowed for her. She mustn’t have a frown in public. Certainly, she couldn’t get upset with a clerk for making a mistake with an order. Well, maybe parking tickets don’t count. Of course, it would be expected that she would have an occasional mistake which would then be broadcast in all of the newspapers. These are the easy things.

How many of you have a mother-in-law that is demanding and difficult? Now, think if she was Queen, you weren’t a Royal, and you were hoping for a proposal from her grandson? There certainly are a lot of expectations for a person in her position. It is almost as if she would be moving to a new country and doesn’t speak the language. She is not used to the Royal protocol and the discipline it requires. Any missteps would be noticed and scrutinized. Consider the ramifications within the Royal household for mistakes or disagreements. The Countess of Wessex might be able to provide Kate some good advice on this matter. These would be the things we wouldn’t see, but bound to take their toll on her happiness.

Let’s face it, the best time for Kate is right now. The pending engagement and upcoming nuptials would certainly seem to be an exciting time for her. It certainly is for us! My concern is what events would occur in her future. It will be difficult for her to find Royal allies to trust. Their alliance will be to the Queen, the Prince of Wales, and Prince William. She can only rely that her Prince will be true and shepherd her through this new lifestyle and that the visions of tiaras dancing in her head will be enough to keep her rested at night.
