Rumour Mill Points to Christmas Engagement
The national press has picked up Royal Anecdotes’ story of a Christmas engagement for Prince William and Kate Middleton. The UK Daily Mail has the headline : “At the Palace, senior courtiers are convinced there will be a Christmas engagement.”
In a lengthy piece by Natalie Clarke and Paul Bracchi running today, the paper reports a private meeting between the Queen and Kate over lunch at Windsor. Afterwards, the Monarch took Kate riding in the grounds.
The Mail comments: “The Royal household is buzzing with rumours that Prince William and Kate are to become engaged at Sandringham over Christmas. If they do, the engagement will remain a secret within Royal circles for a few months before a public announcement is made in the spring.”
A highlevel source is quoted as saying : “A Christmas engagement between William and Kate is the talk of the Royal household. The Royals do have a habit of springing surprises.”
The Queen is said to be relieved and pleased William has found a girl who, in her eyes, is at once so suitable and delightful. “The Queen adores Kate,” says a source. “She is very happy with the match and is quite certain she is right for William.”
Her Majesty likes Kate because she is so natural with her. Instead of the stuffy formality of many of her courtiers, Kate is happy to chat and gossip in an easy-going manner.
“The Queen spends a lot of time meeting ghastly officials who are nervous and obsequious with her,” quotes the Mail. “Kate is like a breath of fresh air because she is totally normal and chatty with her.”
The view of Royal Anecdotes is that if they do keep an engagement secret for months, fuelling yet more speculation and expectation, the Palace will miss a golden opportunity for a great feelgood coup on Christmas Day. It would dominate the news over the holidays and could be the main theme of the Queen’s Christmas broadcast, emphasizing the family.
All the world’s a stage, Ma’am. One should go for it.

Oh no,another breath of fresh air.Hehehe.DM is been saying this engagement for months.WHo knows John, they may get it right until spring or summer or next winter. As i said the Queen must realy adore Kate, cause with such a bad back, surely she went riding.Hehhehe.John iam having a feeling many see our comments and even more are copying them.I must say i will restrain myself in the coming days, too much exposure for me.

By the way If there is an engagement on the cards maybe Williams Christmas card will feature him and Kate.
By shake on December 9th, 2006 at 11:51 am
HM is a shrewed judge of character. If she is taking this much time for Kate then I think there will be an engagement sometime soon.

I think the Queen wants WIlliam married, cause there are very heartbreaking polls about the Royals after the Charles-Camillas mariage. Why you think they arent published? No poll was published since the Times one, after Charles mariage where over 70% or The Times readers who are considered hardmonarchists, wanted him to abdicate.THat poll too was taken down after a while.

I think it’s totally inevitable now, trudie. All the signals are GO, and all the details are slotting into place. A pencil mark in the Palace is like a tablet of stone elsewhere.
By John on December 9th, 2006 at 12:57 pm
Shake, I have a hunch (no stronger yet) that Charles is unobtrusively making way for William and Kate already.
So much is being directed at William now and Charles knows he’ll be seen as second best when William and Kate marry and form the most attractive couple on the circuit.
The Queen wants to secure the Monarchy before she leaves the scene, and a William and Catherine succession, with an heir in place, would be the dream ticket for her.
The old dominions, like Australia, wouldn’t accept Charles and Camilla, so the Monarchy would contract. They are much more likely to accept Wills and Kate. I think Charles reluctantly has come to believe this too, and maybe Camilla is the one who made him face the facts.
By John on December 9th, 2006 at 1:01 pm
I agree only for the half of it.I think the Queen told him,you want to Marry her Charles?Marry her,and lets see what happens. But if you arent accepted and there will be still strong opposition, then whatever happens i will promote William.I dont think Charles will ever give up.Recently he almost attacked WIlliam in an interview saying William does nothing for charities or doesnt apreaciate his work at the Prince Trust.I expect him to attack him more and more if he and Kate get engaged. But Charles thinks he is stronger that the Powers of Evil the Queen talked to Burell about. You will see,if WIlliam agrees to take a front lead ,how quicly Charles will be threatened to step aside or lets say, pics of him or stories about him or tapes about him,or that secret that could bring down the Monarchy, will surface. He hasnt understand, the moment he had the heir he wasnt the important one especialy a heir who was Dianas son and even looked like her, cause now he looks like a WIndsor, and as bad William maybe people will still hope someday the Diana goodness will wake up in him,or at least he can always pretend to be like her.As the VanCutsems quicly have understand,Charles isnt the important one anymore,so you saw how quicly and swiftly they became closer to WIlliam and Harry and have taken their distance from the unpopular couple.

As for Camilla, recent events, even her recent sickness have revealed to all of us,that she isnt at all comfortable in public or capable of public duties or popular or funie or an intelectual she didnt went to Uni either,i wonder why Diana was so criticised from Charles friends about that, since Cams doesnt seem that a reader herself,or better than Diana,as we heard for so many years from people who bashed Diana. She doesnt have any charisma, she is even plainer than the vilager up in the Highlands and whatever the spin says, she doesnt like hard work, she never worked in her life. Its quite clear they already live separate lives, they dodnt even bother to pose for a recent photograph to use in their Christmas card and they are only in their second year of their mariage.
By shake on December 9th, 2006 at 1:16 pm
And on a last note,if Kate marries William,i think she has agreed to the cheating and all the rest of the Royals lifestyle. But iam not sure she will handle it afterwards.
By shake on December 9th, 2006 at 1:25 pm
I don’t believe Charles attacked William for not doing enough for charity. He’s a full-time officer-cadet and before that was a full-time student. Time enough for good works, when he leaves the Army.
It’s easy to cherry-pick small incidents and weave them into a tapestry of your own design. Shake, I think you are a master weaver.
As for Camilla not having charisma, everybody agrees she’s the life and soul of a party in private.
And my views on Prince Charles are a hunch only at this stage. The Royal Family will preserve the Monarchy, and that means choosing the better option at the next changeover, whatever the Act of Settlement may say.
By John on December 9th, 2006 at 1:27 pm
Of course she is the heart of a party John, cause thats how she lived all her life/Never offered something back, never helped anybody.I said, she cant behave in public or in duties, not in parties. In parties she can mouth kiss another man while her husband was present/Iam sure you can find Charles words,it was a covered attack. The same way he used to attack Diana./With covered lines.Just wait and see.You know my opinion about hardworking William who was more out taking leaves than staying at Sandhurst.
By shake on December 9th, 2006 at 1:35 pm
I simply cannot imagine Charles, who cannot stand to share the limelight with anyone, agreeing to give up the throne. He has been chafing at the bit, frustrated by his long wait for the throne for years. That, along with his fragile ego and rampant insecurities are what makes him so hyper-critical of everyone. It will take someone very powerful–moreso than the Queen–to push Charles aside. The power structure needs to find a way to do that, however, because Charles and Camilla will bring the monarchy down in England if they are allowed to reign. I agree with John. When The Queen dies, William must succeed her, no matter what laws are bent to bring that about. The absurd fact that Charles actually thought that Camilla could replace Princess Diana in the eyes of the nation and commonwealth demonstrates the extent of his delusion and sense of self-entitlement.

the press stated this last year and what happened? nothing. theyre stating it this year and whats going to happen? nothing.
peter and autumn kelly, yes there will be an engagement soon. kate and prince william? i dont think so. harry and chelsy are probably closer or on par to marriage than those two.
i dont doubt that william and kates relationship is serious. believing all the hype the press is putting out would be unwise at this point however.
By ha on December 9th, 2006 at 5:06 pm
Ch has officialy denied William will get engaed or is engaged.

Wow.I can hear many Royal reporters and investigators laughing at the British inquiry, who accepts Henri Paul was close to the secret services, and that Dianas phone was bugged until the moment she died, but it had nothing to do with her death. Can anyone explain me,why Charles will receive a copy instead of her family? Why William and Harry dont receive it?Arent they old enough now?As i said, and was right again, the establishment showed how much they control things and laugh at peoples and justice face,by having the Inquiry anounced one day,and the next day,William passing out, showing how happy he and Harry are with the Royals and Camilla as their mum,and how they dont think their family killed the mad girl.Shame.Iam even suprised a paper had the guts to write this openly. What callous men William and Harry have become.Being used by the Royals,as their puppets again and again. They dont understand that instead of making the Royals more popular, they infact make themselfs look as cold and calculating men who dont care about their mother and how she died.Anyone thought there was a chance this wont be anounced an accident?Long live Mohamed Al Fayed.I feel such respect for this guy.I hope he drops it now though, its hopeless.Looking at her sons and seeing what they have become, its so sad. What losers.

The daily mail also said CH said “reports were all hot air”, but it was at the end of an article about an engagement. Many people don’t make it to the bottom of an article.

Mandy, I found this : http://scotlandonsunday.scotsman.com/index.cfm?id=1833032006
Quote:
CLARENCE House last night denied reports of Kate Middleton (above) and Prince William’s impending engagement as “speculative and totally unfounded”. The rebuttal came hours after a newspaper suggested the royal house was “buzzing with rumours” that William would propose over Christmas.
By Ziny on December 10th, 2006 at 5:43 am
You and Varya must think alike she posted that article too above.
I think the Palace might be getting tired of all the engagement reports.
I wonder if other Royal Houses were calling making inquires too about the reports in the press, or maybe the Palace and William just got tired of all the speculation.

By Positive on December 10th, 2006 at 7:13 am

By Margaret on December 10th, 2006 at 8:18 am
I hate to point this out but BP denied many years ago there was anything to Princess Anne’s relationship with Mark Philips other than Horses then a few weeks later they become engaged. When Charles and Diana dated Christmas was rife with an imminent engagement announcement they announced it in February same thing with the engagements of Sarah and Sophie so you see given past denials and their results I believe an engagement will be announced soon.
By Trudie on December 10th, 2006 at 10:40 am
Trudie’s right, the Royal press offices always deny everything until it’s been announced. The rule is, if it hasn’t been officially announced, it doesn’t exist, even if it’s to be announced next day. If they didn’t do that, there would be no point in having official announcements.
Since this will be announced under the Queen’s name, you can see their point. Nothing happens until the Royal lady sings.
By John on December 10th, 2006 at 11:10 am
Even if the Palace announces the engagement of Prince William and Kate Middleton at Christmas or soon after (before Lent, I would imagine) it will take between six months to a year to plan the wedding, especially the wedding of the heir presumptive. For one thing, they have to book Westminster Abbey or St. Paul’s Cathedral and for another thing, royal representatives from all the monarchies in Europe and Asia need to fit the date into their booked-well-in-advance schedules. I think a Christmas engagement and an English summer wedding would be perfect!
By Gigi on December 10th, 2006 at 9:39 pm
I don’t think they will get married any time soon.
Could you see the headlines Prince William asks to take a break from army duties to go on honeymoon?
The future queen resigns from her job of less than one month to become Duchess, even though she went 18 months without a job.
I think that if PW is happy, he should be with whomever he wishes but also I would like for him to become comfortable in his role before he marries. He will be the one who will help his wife the most and he still seems a bit if like he is finding his feet. I think that if there was going to be an engagement this year or before he finishes the army CM would not have gotten a job.
I wished the press would stop these articles because CM is really becoming overexposed and it will not help the royal family’s popularity if people are over them before they began.
By Summer on December 10th, 2006 at 10:48 pm
CH wouldn’t say this without William’s okay and he said himself he doesn’t want to get married until 28- 30, I think he meant it. Even if he dates Kate for the next three years, there’s no guarantee. If he wants to marry her he will, nothing the press can say or do will stop him.
By mandy on December 10th, 2006 at 11:53 pm
What the Royals say to the press and what they think and do are frequently two entirely different things.
I, for one/ will take what comes. (What other choice have we?)
By Gigi on December 11th, 2006 at 12:31 am
I’ll take what comes, whatever comes. What has come, is a CH statement.
By mandy on December 11th, 2006 at 12:56 am
They lie. They lied about Andrew, they lied about Princess Anne, they’re not above lying about this either. John thinks they could announce Christmas, I don’t. I think Kate and Will have long had an understanding of when they will marry. They know it already. When they are ready to announce their love to the world, they will. And then I will break out the bubbly. And make reservations.
By Positive on December 11th, 2006 at 1:44 am
Okay.
By mandy on December 11th, 2006 at 5:20 am
Rather than making this too long- check the facts regarding Mary and Hubby being made Queen and King with Parliment asking them to while bypassing the heir in line. History can always repeat itself. Why on earth would Kate have supposedly started a job right before announcing an engagement? It hardly will be good PR if they do announce it because it will be evident how well the spin works for appearance sake and look plain foolish! Although it would be fun to see HM and Prince Phillip with a great-grandchild soon! Years from now historians will tear apart PoW’s life and God help him because it will not be favorable.
