More Speculation on Royal Wedding

Chelsy Davy, Zara Phillips and Kate Middleton.

There has been a lot of speculation over the weekend on a possible Royal wedding between Kate Middleton and Prince William. Here at Royal Anecdotes we have stuck to our guns that a May/June marriage is a strong possibility, not least because senior reporters and columnists have been told that the date is “pencilled in” by the Palace.

The most interesting piece was by Katie Nicoll of the UK’s Mail on Sunday, not least because she claims to have broken the “pencilled-in” story.

Listening to Prince William’s friends, rather than her Palace contacts, she’s picking up a different story: “William doesn’t want to think about marriage — he thinks he’s too young to be tied down and still sees himself as a young fellow who wants to have some fun.”

Might these friends of the Prince just be tight-lipped and loyal? After all, it’s unlikely that William will have broadcast his plans to friends and acquaintances ahead of an official announcement.

When Katie turned back to the Palace, however, it was a different story: “He [William] knows there’s a a lot of pressure on him to find a suitable bride and that Kate ticks all the right boxes … He loves Kate and she is his first true love. The fear is that history could repeat itself and she could be the next Camilla.”

Another insider said: “Kate is very much part of The Firm [the Royal family] and she’s in the system. She has had media training, knows how to handle the Press and even has private audiences with the Queen. She’s as close to a Princess as you can get …

“She won’t stay around for ever and if William doesn’t marry her, the reality is she could be damaging the Monarchy. The Palace, particularly the old guard, see it as in everyone’s interest that they marry — and sooner rather than later.”

Our guess here at Royal Anecdotes is that the pencil marks are still there and will be inked in before Christmas. You heard it here first.

Why Kate Middleton?

Prince William, Harry and Zara
Prince William (mounted), Zara Phillips and Prince Harry.

A lot of people are commenting adversely about Kate Middleton now, some even on this website. Your correspondent has even been accused of being Kate’s mother … as if!

Let me then divulge the most popular search terms for our little Royal corner of the internet. By far the most popular term googled by visitors here is … wait for it … “kate middleton”. Well, blow me down.

Second, with half the score, is “chelsy davy”. Third, a long way back is “princess beatrice”.

So, the girls have it, and by a wide margin. Zara is in there just, but William and Harry are very low on the list. Interestingly, Guy Pelly is not too far away from the winners’ enclosure, but nowhere near the handsome young women. Bea is the top Royal by miles.

So that’s why we give Kate some prominence here : our readers are looking for Kateish stories. The same is true of Chelsy.

Why would we write endlessly about the good ole Dook of Edinburgh when nobody googles him?

Cashing in on Prince William

It’s good to know that Prince William spreads his bounty around the country like the Kings of old. Wherever he goes, enterprising folk cash in on his Royal cachet.

Take Mr Sami Chowdhury, proprietor of WE The Restaurant in Fleet Hampshire. When Prince William and 37 fellow officers from nearby Sandhurst Military Academy dropped in for a curry, Sami took out a front-page advert in the local gazette announcing that his oddly-named establishment had been patronized by “HRH Prince William”.

WE The Restaurant, which is graced by pools of koi carp with waterfalls, now offers a “Set Menu As Served to Prince William & Party” for £19.95 ($37) per person.

The proud proprietor said: “William bought several rounds of drinks for his mates and drank Jack Daniel’s and Coke all evening — even when he was eating. He was very chatty and friendly and loved the food, especially the Chicken Tikka Masala — he asked for a second helping.

I wonder if Sami will apply for a Royal Warrant to hang over his door?

Britney Spears Obsessed with Princess Diana

Britney Spears

We are hearing that pop princess Britney Spears has become totally obsessed with Princess Diana. She even believes that the people supposed to have killed Diana are plotting against her too.

Paranoia comes in all shapes and sizes. In Britney’s case she’s spending a small fortune on Diana memorabilia to grace a special room in her LA mansion which she’s converting into a shrine for the much-lamented Princess.

A friend of Britney has said: “She has become a compulsive collector of anything to do with Diana. It has taken over her whole life. She believes the people who killed Diana are now plotting to kill her.”

Apart from the facts of the case — that both the French and more recent British inquiries have concluded it was a drink-drive accident — Britney is said to be under the influence of more than miniature bottles of Jack Daniels. My spy at 2 Derry Street opines that the US chantreuse has read that truly awful book, The Murder of Princess Diana by Noel Botham.

When told of Britney’s mental state, Botham is reported to have said: “Don’t blame me, I only wrote the book.”

Will someone in LA suggest to the former writhing temptress that she has a word with Lord Stephens, who is even now wrapping up his exhaustive two-year inquiry into the case.
