UK Super-sizing epidemic, Claims Prince Charles

Prince Charles

Prince Charles believes Britain is facing a “supersizing epidemic” because of a lack of cycling and walking facilities in the UK’s “unattractive* towns and cities.

Speaking at a conference on urban design and health at St. James’s Palace, his former home, The Prince of Wales said: “We are perhaps not far behind our American cousins in the supersizing epidemic.”

Later a spokesman was asked about the Prince’s own walking and cycling habits. He replied: “It’s not about him. It’s about the nation.”

Duchess of York Banned from Royal Lodge

Royal Lodge in 1823.

The always fraught relationship between Prince Philip and the Duchess of York has boiled over once again with the Prince banning her from living at Royal Lodge, home of her former husband, Prince Andrew, the Duke of York.

Since their divorce, the Yorks have maintained an amicable relationship, with Fergie (the Duchess) even sharing the old family home at Windsor — Southyork as it became known.

After the death of the Queen Mother, Royal Lodge became the home of the Duke, who made some rooms available for the mother of his two daughters, the Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie. Now it appears Prince Philip has objected and Fergie is looking for an apartment in New York, where she spends most of her time working on her business interests.

Speculation on why the decision was made has included, avoiding the spotlight falling on Prince Andrew whose life seems to have deteriorated into a round of pleasure and golf; and the fact that the Queen enjoyed an idyllic childhood at Royal Lodge before the Abdication changed her life forever.

Prince Harry to Join Household Cavalry

Prince Harry

Following Prince William’s decision to join the Welsh Guards after he graduates from Sandhurst Military Academy, Prince Harry has decided to head for the Household Cavalry. Clarence House is expected to make the announcement this week.

Harry has not yet indicated whether he will join the Life Guards or the Blues and Royals, the two senior regiments that make up the Sovereign’s personal escort and bodyguard.

Harry is expected to continue to pursue his love of polo and horses, no doubt one of the reasons he chose the Household Cavalry. For the first two years he will be involved in largely ceremonial duties and as an escort protecting the Queen.

Thereafter, he will be expected to take up a military role in the armoured division that the modern Cavalry specializes in. This could see him posted to Iraq or Afghanistan at some time in the future.

Update: Clarence House has confirmed that Harry will be joining the Household Cavalry as Second Lieutenant Wales. It was also announced that he would be part of the Blues and Royals.
